Let businesses know – ‘Unions Buy Local’
NEARI launched “Unions Buy Local” with the RI Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals and other unions Mother’s Day weekend. Shopping locally makes sense as we try to work with our neighbors to help grow our local – and state – economies.
Rhode Island union members and other working people have the real purchasing power in the
state, much more so than wealthy individuals. We want to use that purchasing power to support local businesses and jobs for local workers in these businesses – and build ties within our local communities.
Participation is simple – just pass a “union buck” whenever you spend money at a local business, dine at a local restaurant, or pay for a local service. The shopping focus this Saturday (May 19) is Garden City, Cranston, at 11:00 a.m. Check back for the meeting place. More towns will be announced over the next few weeks, but you should feel free to spend your union bucks wherever you shop between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
To get your union bucks, see your local president - most should have them after this Thursday's Delegate Assembly meeting. As the project unfolds, keep checking back here for new information. Happy shopping!
