Making Rhode Island public schools great for every child!

Happy Labor Day to all. While many of us have the day off and will be enjoying time with family and end of summer activities, it is also a good time not to forget those who worked and suffered for all of us to have what we have. I (Larry Purtill) think about the grandfather I never knew, who helped form the local carpenter's union in the Westerly-Pawcatuck area over 110 years ago and my uncle who belonged to that union. My Dad was president of his local postal worker's local when I was a kid. They would all agree, that all workers, union or not, should have good wages, health care and a retirement plan they can count on. Why some Americans don't believe that will always be a mystery to me. We must continue the fight so we don't have any more East Providence situations and we elect a Governor in 2010 who will respect state employees and the work they do. Tomorrow the fight continues; today we should remember and celebrate.
