NEA's Read Across America “You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.” That’s the message of NEA’s Read Across America and the power of reading. Pair it up with the party of the year in a Dr. Seuss birthday celebration involving the entire school community! The National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America is designed to encourage children to pick up a book and read on March 2, the birthday of America’s favorite children’s author, Dr. Seuss. This year is the 11th anniversary of Read Across America.
Read Across America has become the largest nation-wide celebration of reading, focusing the country’s attention on the importance of motivating and helping children to read and master crucial skills. It’s a fact that providing children with the motivation to read is essential to student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. NEA’s Read Across America calls on every community to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday through reading motivation and awareness. Join the party by staging your own Read Across America observance in your classroom or school. Let us know about your reading celebration so we can share your ideas with colleagues throughout the state and nation. And be sure to join the NEA Rhode Island Read Across America day March 1 at Warwick Mall! Find out more here. Make it a month-long celebration! Read Across America "30 Ways in 30 Days"
