Become an involved member
Members, if running for office or working on a committee is not your forte, there are plenty of other opportunities for you to get involved with your local or state union. At NEARI, there are programs and events for every interest.
NEARI members volunteer
New! The NEARI Member Volunteer Project Team (MVP Team) is dedicated to giving back to the community through volunteer efforts in a wide variety of situations. It is run by members, through Facebook and face-to-face organizing. Anyone can join and promote a cause! The Team's first event was a Halloween party for 120 children served by the East Providence Boys and Girls Club. Take a look at MVP Team members working on a Habitat home. For updates on programs and events for the 2016-17 year, join the Facebook group - NEARI MVP Team.
Reaching out to needy students
The NEARI Children's Fund reaches out to students and families in need, no matter what the reason. If a NEARI member sees a student who lacks clothing essentials or displays a need for food, heat, eyeglasses, etc., he/she may make the request to Fund Coordinator Val Staples for assistance. Within a day, that student is ready to focus on school again! Read more about ways to support the Fund.
Celebrate reading and great public schools!
NEA's annual Read Across America celebration honors the March 2 birthday of the legendary Dr. Seuss by promoting reading to young children. NEARI holds a statewide event at Warwick Mall that combines a celebrity read-a-thon, book giveaway, and a visit with the Cat in the Hat with a Great Public Schools Expo. Find out how to join in.
ESP CaucusIf you are an Education Support Professional (ESP) member, consider joining the NEARI ESP Caucus. It organizes various events throughout the year, including the Annual ESP Day Dinner and Auction to benefit the Children's Fund, and the book giveaway table that is a highlight of Read Across America.
