Member Political Organizers (MPOs) work to support endorsed candidates that further the values of strong public education, good jobs, and an economy that works for everyone. They will strengthen our Union’s political program and build member engagement.
As we fight to improve funding for public education from pre-k through university, improve the state pension system, and win good contracts, our Member Political Organizers are laying the groundwork for a strong political program.
This program is made possible through grant funding from NEA.
The duties for this position include but are not limited to:
- Attend a training session at NEARI, offered in mid-July
- Door knock other Union members to encourage them to support endorsed candidates in key State Rep/State Senate/Municipal races
- Door knocking will be in pairs. As members get more comfortable, they may split up if they choose, but will always be in the same area
- Submit weekly progress sheets outlining the number of doors knocked on and conversations had
- Call/text other Union members to ask them to volunteer for candidates
To be successful in the role a Local Member Organizer will need:
- Commitment to electing champions for strong public education and public services
- Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills
- Self-motivated with attention to detail and responsible follow through
The pay for this position is $30/hr.
Hours are available from early July through early November, with very flexible schedules.
Minimum commitment is 40 hours total over the 4 months, but can schedule up to 40 hours per week while funding lasts.
