CRANSTON, R.I. (May 12, 2022) – The National Education Association Rhode Island today announced that the NEARI political action committee recommendations for Congress were approved at the national meeting in Washington, D.C. of the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education Political Action Committee of the National Education Association. This makes official the full-fledged support by NEA and NEARI of Congressman David Cicilline for the First Congressional District and General Treasurer Seth Magaziner for the Second Congressional District.

“We are thrilled the NEA moved to support Seth for Congress,” said NEARI President Larry Purtill. “The NEARI-PACE members were impressed with his presentation during the interview process, and I sent that recommendation to the national meeting with enthusiasm. We’ve worked well with the Treasurer throughout his years in office and he is a solid advocate for the education and labor issues important to our members. He is the strongest candidate to represent Rhode Island’s Second District in Washington.”

“Congressman Cicilline has proven time and again that he is a labor and public education champion. David listens to our members, supports the collective bargaining process, and believes in high-quality public education for all Rhode Island students. We are proud once again to support him. We look forward to continuing our work together in his next term representing the Ocean State’s First District,” added Purtill.
